The Royal

The iconic structure at the heart of Atlantis is composed of the Royal Towers. As gimmicky as it feels, the architecture is really awesome, easily giving an impression that it did rise from the bottom of the ocean.

Another iconic structure on the property is the the Mayan Temple – featuring several slides, most notably the Leap of Faith. It’s a 60 foot vertical drop that sends you through an underwater tube – where, if your eyes are open – you see sharks. Just to add a tiny more “zomg” to the ride. And no, I did not do it – but the rest of the party did, many times. Yeah, call me chicken.. I can take it.

Here’s one of them 30ft down:

In other water news, the Rapids River was a family favorite. A long “lazy” river which has a series of real RAPIDS – its not really all that lazy. IE, oftentimes, someone required a bandaid after a hard impact along a wall. Still fun!

Out of the treated water, the actual ocean was quite nice. Ok, well, this isn’t real either. It is a manufactured cove, with a large seawall preventing waves and creatures from entering. Mostly – I definitely saw something swimming around that was not human.

Oh yeah and you may notice some strange angles in these pics. Of course I bought another camera! Now there’s a GoPro Hero 11 Black in the mix, taking these fisheye, wet and ‘extreme’ pictures.

And that full moon.. with backlit palm trees. Good times.
